The 9th International Berry Fruit Congress to be held in Huelva on 19th and 20th June 2024, organised by Freshuelva, will be a special edition for Nova Siri Genetics, the Italian-based company specialized in researching and testing new strawberry and berries varieties.
The fact that the province of Huelva has become, during this 2023-2024 campaign, the area in Europe where NSG's activity is growing the most, having reached 50 million plants of the cultivated strawberry varieties, is an achievement of particular value for this company.
For this reason, NSG will reinforce its programme of activities at this International Berry Fruit Congress with the presence of an outstanding team that will hold meetings, presentations and talks to show the good results its strawberry varieties NSG 203–Marimbella®, NSG 207–Gioelita® and NSG 465–Rossetta®, have achieved in Huelva, along with two new selections that are very promising for the area of Huelva.
In fact, despite the fact that the area planted with strawberries in the province of Huelva was reduced by 5% in this campaign, Nova Siri Genetics managed to significantly increase its activity in this area, as these 50 million plants represent a growth of 34% compared to the previous campaign. This increase is supported by excellent data on the quality achieved by these strawberry varieties, their earliness and their resistance.
In addition to this, the three varieties had an efficient productivity for the companies of the sector. The production data obtained in the current campaign place these NSG varieties as one of the most reliable options for growers in their choice of early strawberry varieties, cultivated to meet market demand starting in November and December and throughout the campaign which ends this June.
Concerning this participation in the International Berry Fruit Congress, Alida Stigliano, marketing and communication manager of Nova Siri Genetics, said that “the NSG company once again chooses Huelva and this meeting as a strategic place to foster networking and the exchange of information between NSG and the entire value chain, production companies, nurserymen and technical professionals involved in the cultivation and production of berries”.
Regarding the development of this work, Alida Stigliano explained that “during the two-day congress, the NSG team will hold a programme of meetings with these strategic players in the strawberry industry in the province of Huelva to present the data that confirm the ability of these varieties to guarantee quality, earliness, rusticity, productivity, sustainability and the production of a strawberry that is highly appreciated by consumers and markets”. In this sense, he emphasised that “these good performances of the NSG strawberry varieties allow us to foresee a new exceptional growth of these varieties in the whole area of Southern Spain for the next season 2024-2025”.
