The heart of our genetic improvement work

Laboratory

The main activity in the laboratory is the collection of meristematic tips for in vitro culture, a crucial step in obtaining healthy, uniform and genetically controlled starting plant material.

We also integrate activities related to the analysis and characterisation of plant material and fruits, including somatic-morphological and physiological assessments of the different selections and cultivars, which help to support the breeding activities carried out in the field.

EXPERIMENTAL FIELDS

Experimental fields are the places where the entire process of selection and validation of new strawberry and berry cultivars occurs.
Identifying a promising selection requires a multi-year period of agronomic and phenotypic evaluation, generally lasting no less than four years, during which the candidate selections are tested in different soil and climate conditions and under different cultivation systems.
During the trials, productive, qualitative and physiological parameters are analysed, with the aim of identifying the best-performing selections in terms of adaptability, productive stability and suitability for the current and future demands of the supply chain.

PROPAGATION AND CONSERVATION GREENHOUSE

Our glass propagation and conservation greenhouse is a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to the controlled management of plant material.
Within this protected environment, the following key activities are carried out:
Acclimatisation of material from the laboratory
Germination of seeds from cross-breeding and the growth of the seedlings obtained from them
Conservation and propagation of the primary source of varieties grown in soilless cultivation.
The integration of environmental control systems and precision agronomic management enables us to preserve the integrity of the genetic material and to efficiently support the propagation and varietal selection phases.
