Policoro, March 26, 2026 – Focus on genetic innovation and sustainable production for Nova Siri Genetics (NSG), which hosted its fifth Open Day at its research center, a long-standing event that attracts professionals from the national and international strawberry supply chain.
Throughout the day, the Italian company specialized in breeding new strawberry and berry cultivars gave nurserymen, growers, and industry stakeholders the opportunity to visit its experimental fields, which include cultivars already on the market and advanced selections in the pre-commercial phase.
In addition to technical visits, room is also given to tasting sessions, which are useful for evaluating the organoleptic characteristics of the new cultivars and their potential market positioning.

“We are very pleased with the large turnout our Open Day attracted again this year – says NSG breeder Nicola Tufaro – Year after year, our guests’ interest in the results of the research conducted by the NSG team continues to grow. During the Open Day, they have the opportunity to visit the experimental fields of strawberries and berries, where approximately 21.000 selections provide a tangible demonstration of the work carried out. In addition to these selections, they can observe trials comparing the agronomic and productive performance of the most advanced selections and new varieties. It is an immersive and authentic experience: guests not only see but also get hands-on with the results of the research and engage directly with our team, sharing impressions, questions, and expectations. This opportunity for interaction is essential, as it allows research to meet the real needs of the supply chain, fostering a concrete and constructive dialogue focused on the future.”
In a production environment marked by climate change, reduced use of plant protection products, and growing demand for sustainability, NSG continues to develop varieties that ensure stable production, agronomic efficiency, and commercial quality.

Carmela Suriano, director of NSG, states: “In such a changing context as the current one, our research is the result of a joint work, fueled by the contributions of every player in the supply chain. In fact, each link in the chain provides the essential input to guide the development of new varieties capable of introducing elements of differentiation, innovation, and value for the entire industry. The supply chain approach has always been one of the cornerstones on which NSG is founded; over the years, the company has built a strong network of relationships that has become a true strategic asset for the company.”

Among the event’s main highlights, the guests had the opportunity to visit the center’s facilities, both in-ground and above-ground, dedicated to the new variety NSG 48-Elyson®. The cultivar, recently presented to industry professionals during a dedicated event at the Michelin-starred restaurant “Da Vittorio” in Brusaporto (BG), has already been introduced in different regions across Italy, where it is gaining interest for its production performances and excellent feedback from buyers and consumers.

The next appointment with NSG is at Macfrut in Rimini from the 21st to the 23rd of April, where the company will be located in the Berry Area, hosting a series of events designed to provide an up-close look at its new variety offerings.
