Positive outcome for NSG at Fruit Attraction 2025 in Madrid

At its seventh consecutive participation in Fruit Attraction in Madrid, NSG (Nova Siri Genetics) reports a positive outcome from this year’s edition of the international event. Numerous meetings took place at stand no. 9G06, located in Hall 9 dedicated to companies from Andalusia, a Spanish region renowned for strawberry cultivation, where NSG’s breeding program stood out with its main strawberry cultivars.

The Italian breeding company is currently in a phase of international expansion, and the three-day event in Madrid represents a key annual appointment, given the growing presence of global players. Fruit Attraction also provided an opportunity to present three new strawberry varieties currently undergoing registration at the European level.

“We are very satisfied with the interest shown by nurseries, buyers, and growers in our breeding program,” said Fabrizia Settembrino, International Relations Manager at NSG. “The numerous meetings held at our stand allowed us to establish new contacts and strengthen existing partnerships. In particular, we had the opportunity to present the latest additions to our varietal portfolio to players from more distant regions, such as South America, South Africa, and Australia, in addition to those from the Mediterranean basin. Therefore, Fruit Attraction once again confirms itself as an important global showcase for us.”

NSG’s current varietal offering mainly includes four strawberry varieties: NSG 203 – Marimbella®, NSG 465 – Rossetta®, NSG 207 Gioelita®, and Melissa. Starting this year, pilot fields dedicated to three new varieties—NSG 48, NSG 142, and NSG 161—will be established at NSG partners’ facilities. These are considered highly promising thanks to their innovative characteristics. In addition, the company is set to soon launch its first raspberry variety.

Nicola Tufaro, breeder at the company, was also present at the event and stated: “From discussions with the various supply chain players attending the fair, it clearly emerged that there is an increasingly urgent need to address climate change across all production areas worldwide. Climate fluctuations and water scarcity require research companies like ours to provide effective solutions for growers and nurseries. NSG’s commitment is to offer strawberry cultivars that are прежде всего resilient—able to withstand climate variability, adaptable to different soil types, and suitable for more sustainable cultivation techniques. We also focus on early ripening and optimal fruit characteristics, enabling growers to supply the market continuously for about eight months a year, from autumn to late spring.”

Meanwhile, the distribution of fresh-type plants of NSG cultivars in the Mediterranean basin has recently begun; distribution of rooted tip plants took place in the first weeks of September.

NSG strawberry cultivars are propagated by nursery partners located in various regions of Central Europe, such as Poland and Germany, as well as in northern Spain, where pedoclimatic conditions are ideal for varieties with low chilling requirements.
